Applications Using Ohio Supercomputer Center’s Statewide Network Play Major Role in Awards
First Round of Applications Due January 31
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jan. 09, 2007 – On May 1, 2007, the Advanced Technology (AT) Summit will host awards for candidates demonstrating the most innovative uses, services and collaborations over Ohio Supercomputer Center’s (OSC) network.
OSC’s network is the nation’s most advanced statewide fiber-optic network for education, research, and development serving K-12 schools, colleges and universities, hospitals and clinics, and public television stations.
Hosted by OSC, the 2007 AT Summit: Applied Cyberinfrastructure for Innovation conference and awards ceremony will be held at the Blackwell Inn in Columbus, Ohio, May 1. AT Summit awardees will be honored on Tuesday night. For more information about nomination categories or submitting a nomination, visit http://www.atsummit.org/about/nom_cat.shtml. Award nominations are due by January 31, 2007. Nominees will then be selected by committee to submit a complete application. Nominated initiatives may come from the local, state, or regional level, however, one of the collaborators must be from Ohio.
“The AT Summit is held to foster collaboration and showcase new cyberinfrastructure applications,” said Pankaj Shah, OSC networking director. “The awards ceremony recognizes government professionals who are forging a vision for the use of emerging new technologies.”
AT Summit awards will be presented in the following three categories:
- The Leadership category will be given to individuals or groups demonstrating innovative, vision-oriented networking technologies or services on a campus level. Specific awards in this category will honor emerging network technology, campus networking, and online curriculum.
- The Experimental and Application Research category will be judged on research or applications of scientific merit that require bandwidth, latency and/or services provided by the TFN. Specific awards in this category will honor remote modeling, simulation and visualization, as well as remote measurements and instrumentation.
- The Collaboration category includes individuals or groups who work together to demonstrate the TFN’s value in fostering overall workforce development, disaster recovery, improved heathcare, and other community-based needs. Specific awards in this category will honor community, state, national contributions.
The AT Summit’s goal is to fuse industry, academic, and government professionals with the common vision of incorporating new and exciting technologies for innovation. These collaborations are all facilitated by OSC’s expansive broadband network. This year’s focus will be on the region’s cyberinfrastructure, which allows numerous collaborations throughout various fields of science, industry and academia.
